Europe's M.B.A.s Out-Earn U.S. Counterparts

By Laura Lorber

Want to earn the big bucks out of business school? A European school might be your best bet. The Economist's 2009 survey of business schools found that graduates of European programs receive higher salary offers than their American counterparts.

One reason: Their graduates tend to have more years in the workforce under their belt.

But the report's findings suggest that, no matter where you go, business school is a good investment for the career-minded. Newly minted M.B.A.s saw their average salary jump by 72% compared with their pay prior to business school.

The Economist ranked 110 business schools. Here are the top 10:

1. IESE -- Business School University of Navarra, Spain

2. IMD -- International Institution for Management Development, Switzerland

3. University of California, Haas School of Business, U.S.

4. University of Chicago, Booth School of Business, U.S.

5. Harvard Business School, U.S.

6. Dartmouth College, Tuck School of Business, U.S.

7. Stanford Graduate School of Business, U.S.

8. London Business School, U.S.

9. University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School, U.S.

10. Vlerick Leuven Gent, Belgium
