Investment bank Greenhill & Co. Inc. is exiting the merchant-banking business, spinning off its private-equity arm. Greenhill Capital Partners will be a standalone PE shop after nine years of affiliation with the New York boutique, which will become a pure-play advisory firm, according to The Wall Street Journal. The split was prompted in part by plans for future growth and capital needs for each business that would go along with it.
