RBS has announced that it will hire 500 technology pros outside of the U.K. But it's doom and gloom on the employment front at the embattled British bank after that.
Just days after RBS cut 2,000 jobs in the insurance sector, the bank revealed its plan to shed an additional 3,500 business services and technology services employees in the U.K.
Since 2009, RBS has shed over 20,000 employees as part of its plan to regain profitability and improve the company's efficiency. The bank announced that it would shed thousands of jobs after its 2008 bailout by the British government -- though at least a third of the recent cuts are being attributed to the European Commission's ruling last month, which ceded control of 318 RBS branches to Santander.
Job seekers in the U.S., India, and the Far East can expect there to be opportunities at RBS in the coming months as that is where RBS will focus its tech hiring.
