I-banking and securities headcount has gone down by more than 20% in New York City and New York State in September from a year earlier, the Wall Street Journal reports. The number of pros working in those sectors fell 23% in NYC to 32,300 and 25% to 33,500 in New York state.
More broadly speaking, in New York state, there were 485,000 finance and insurance pros in September this year, down from 490,000 a year ago. On Wall Street in New York City, employment fell to 160,200, down 1.7% from a year earlier.
When it comes to the securities brokerage category, the number of pros fell 17% in New York state and 15% in the city.
