Allstate Insurance Co. is looking to add branches in Michigan, and needs 240 people to staff them.
In an effort to replace retired and resigned agents in the region, 40 of the hires will fill agency-ownership roles. Twenty will be based in the Detroit-metro area, while the remaining 20 will be split between Western and Central Michigan. The remaining 200 staffers needed will fill marketing and customer recruiting roles, at least 80 of which will be located in or around Detroit. The company will host training programs for the new hires.
Detroit, an auto-industry hub, was hit hard by the recession, and has seen a number of layoffs in recent years. Allstate -- which is recruiting for its auto, boat, and RV insurance businesses -- hopes to pick up some of the area's displaced auto-industry veterans as the state's government gradually loosens the rules and regulations previously set forth for insurers.
