Tip: Japanese Finance Firms on the Hunt for Talent

Most Asian hiring stories haven't tended to focus on Japan -- until now. Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Japan's second-largest bank by market cap, will expand its brokerage business outside Japan. It will expand to 70 from 27 in New York and to 120 employees from 33 in London. Meanwhile, Mizuho Financial Group, the country's third largest bank by market cap, will expand its advisory services in Asia. It plans to hire 170 through March.

Tip: Microinsurance Growth to Create Emerging Markets Jobs

You've heard of microfinance, but microinsurance? Say hello to the new micro on the block. For new growth, insurance companies are turning to emerging markets, where they can bundle microinsurance and microfinance loans together to sell to low-income populations. The market is mostly untapped thus far, but as it gains traction the industry will have to hire those who can cater to emerging markets.

Tip: Mining Companies May Hire to Comply with Dodd-Frank

Dodd-Frank has put a premium on transparency and companies are hiring in response. New SEC rules would require mining companies to reveal what taxes, royalties and fees they pay to other governments. As a result, mining companies will need finance pros who can navigate disclosure paperwork and understand the nuisances of operating in foreign countries. Compliance is set to be one of the hottest hiring areas for finance pros in 2011.

Tip: Jefferies Buoyed by New Workers, Still Hiring

2010 was a good year for personnel at Jefferies. The firm added 456 positions in the first 11 months on the year, and is continuing to scout for new talent. The company wants to bring on investment bankers in Asia and Latin America and has capital markets work piling up in its pipeline. Investment banking sales increased 51% from last year, a green light to add more staffers in the business.
