Cisco Systems announced today that Michael K. Powell will resign from the company's board of directors, effective April 1, 2011.
His appointment yesterday as president and CEO of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association, the trade association for the cable industry, required him to resign.
Powell, 47, is the son of former Secretary of State Colin Powell. He was chairman of the FCC from 2001 until January 2005 and sits on numerous boards, including at the RAND Corporation, the Santa Monica, Calif.-based nonprofit policy and research firm, and at AOL. He is also a senior advisor at Providence, R.I.-based private-equity firm Providence Equity Partners.
