UBS Poaches Wealth Managers

By julie steinberg

UBS Wealth Management continues to add to its wealth advisor roster, edging toward its stated goal of having 7,000 advisors in total. The company has hired one complex director and four more advisors, poaching talent from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, Merrill Lynch, and Jefferies. The unit had 6,796 at the end of 2010.

Bob McCann, the head of UBS Wealth Management Americas as of October 2009, unveiled a strategy for growth in May 2010. He pledged to reduce advisor turnover at the firm while cutting costs for the unit.

Jon Ramey joined UBS last Thursday as the new Dayton, Ohio, complex director, or branch manager. The Dayton complex is made up of the Dayton, Ohio, and Centerville, Ohio, branches. He will report to Pete Kaldis, regional director for the MidAmerica region of UBS Wealth Management Americas, the unit that oversees clients in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

Ramey joined from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, where he was the branch manager for the same branches. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, he had worked at Citigroup for almost 14 years. He has also worked at Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor.

Wealth managers Michael Monatlik and Leor Tzour have joined from Merrill Lynch. They're based in Beverly Hills and report to David Bigler, the branch manager there. Both had worked at Merrill for five years.

John Sullivan and Scott Sorenson, wealth managers who defected from Jefferies, will be based in UBS's San Francisco office. They will report to branch manager Wendi Eckardt.
