NYC Startup Jibe Is in the Job Market

By joseph walker

Social careers site Jibe will add 15 new employees this year after raising $6 million in new financing.

Jibe allows users to log into its site with their Facebook or LinkedIn accounts. They can then see if they are connected to employees at a company with a Jibe job post.

Founded in 2009, the NYC-based startup has 15 employees. On the engineering side, it's hiring people with experience in natural language processing, back-end knowledge of Ruby, Java and MySQL.

Talented user-experience designers are in especially high demand at Jibe.

"The version of the site we have out there right now is still young, we know we have to make improvements in UE [user experience] to move ahead," said CEO Joe Essenfeld.

The company is also hiring sales and marketing professionals.

Essenfeld said the company is engineering-centric and hires programmers who take ownership of product. When a new employee joins, they're given responsibility for a specific aspect of the site -- for instance, the section for employers with less than 1,000 employees.

The engineer "will work only on that product. There's not this sense that he's coding just to code, but he's building something that he can put a stamp on," Essenfeld said.
