Tip: Russian Bank to Hire for Equities
Russian investment bank VTB Capital, which has gone on a hiring spree in recent months, will continue to hire in M&A, equities, trading and advisory in its Dubai office. Many other banks are pulling back in the region, but VTB has been poaching and hiring hundreds of bankers as it attempts to compete with global firms. The Middle East and Africa region is prime for activity and will need bankers tooversee deals, the bank believes.

Don't get us wrong: We're not completely optimistic about the hiring going on at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. After all, the firm is in the process of cutting 30,000 people. But some areas, such as financial advising and small business banking, continue to grow. The firm hired 300 financial advisers in the first quarter, bringing the total to 17,500, up from 15,800 a year earlier. Last quarter, the bank hired 100 small business bankers.

The number of openings for accountants and auditors this tax season rose significantly from last year, reflecting a continued surge in accountant hiring, a trend FINS reported last October. More than 29,000 job ads for those roles were posted online last month, nearly a 50% increase from March of last year. New York, Chicago and Boston seem to be experiencing the greatest need for number-crunchers, according to the figures.
