Hatteras Financial Corp. is a real-estate investment trust based in Winston-Salem, N.C., investing in residential mortgage-backed securities. Managed and advised by Atlantic Capital Advisors LLC in Winston-Salem, the REIT focuses on adjustable-rate and hybrid adjustable-rate single-family residential mortgage pass-through securities guaranteed by a U.S. government agency or issued by a U.S. government-sponsored entity.
Hatteras was founded in 2007 and went public in April 2008, raising $256 million. The company lost $6.1 million in the Lehman Brothers Inc. collapse. Chief executive Michael Hough was a principal and founding member of fixed-income broker-dealer First Winston Securities Inc.
