Overview

New York-based KBW Inc. is an investment bank specializing in the financial services industry. The company is best known for its investment banking unit, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods Inc. Its investment banking business includes M&A and other strategic-advisory services, securities offerings and mutual thrift conversions. Other offerings are sales and trading, research and asset management.

The company is looking to add to its financial-services advisory practices to scoop up talent in the wake of widespread Wall Street layoffs and gear up for expected an increase in bank mergers and capital-raising. KBW recently added to its investment-banking and mortgage-backed securities team. In 2007, it began building a REIT investment-banking unit.

KBW hosts hundreds of events annually, including its "Bruyette Dinners," which offer a platform for industry players to exchange ideas.

The company was one of the hardest-hit companies in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It lost 67 employees in its office in the World Trade Center South Tower.
