Overview

Much more is known about the secretive and enigmatic Louis Bacon than about his even more secretive and enigmatic hedge fund, Moore Capital Management. Bacon founded the firm in 1990 and has delivered to clients consistent and eye-popping gains ever since (one of his funds returned 31% annually through 2007). Moore practices macro investing, making big bets on the movement of whole markets, currencies and commodities.

Unfortunately, 2008 wasn't a good year for making big bets and the value of the assets Moore manages has dropped precipitously. Good news for the firm is more firepower is on the way: Star trader Greg Coffey of GLG Partners has jumped ship and--instead of launching his own fund as was announced--has decided to join Moore as co-chief investment officer along with Bacon.
