Wachovia Corp., a financial-services subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Co., provides banking, asset-management, corporate- and investment-banking, and wealth-management services. With Wells Fargo’s acquisition of Charlotte-based Wachovia in 2008, it created North America's most extensive financial-services company with 6,650 branches. The merged company is the fourth largest in the U.S., reaching customers in 40 states.
In 2008, Barron’s named Wachovia among world’s 25 most respected companies, Forbes magazine ranked it among America’s best big companies for 2008, and DiversityInc magazine named it one of the Top 50 Companies for Diversity for the sixth consecutive year.
Wachovia recently eliminated more than 11,000 jobs.
