Dresdner Bank AG is a financial-services firm that provides investment-banking services, as well as personal and corporate banking and private wealth-management services. The Frankfurt-based company has more than 1,000 branches in Germany and 60 offices in Europe, Asia and the U.S. In 2009, Commerzbank AG acquired Dresdner from insurer Allianz SE.
Commerzbank and Dresdner are Germany's No. 2 and No. 3 banks by assets, respectively. The combined entity is the No. 2 bank in Germany, behind No. 1 Deutsche Bank AG. Martin Blessing, the chairman of the board of managing directors of Commerzbank, was recently appointed chairman of the board of managing directors of Dresdner.
