The San Francisco-based company’s portfolio includes equity and debt investments in more than 40 properties in California, Houston, New York, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and other large cities. Shorenstein Properties is investing its ninth fund with more than $2 billion in committed capital.
Founder Walter Shorenstein is steadfast supporter of the Democratic Party. He received the Democratic National Committee's Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
Shorenstein Properties’ founder Walter Shorenstein is involved in several charitable organizations. Shorenstein and his late wife Phyllis founded the Joan Shorenstein Center on Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in memory of their daughter Joan. He also sponsors the Shorenstein Initiative at Stanford University's Asia/Pacific Research Center, as well as programs at UC Berkeley's Institute of East Asian Studies.
