Overview
Och-Ziff Capital Management Group LLC is a publicly-traded hedge-fund manager. It's the fifth largest hedge fund in the world, according to an Institutional Investor magazine's 2008 Alpha Hedge Fund 100 ranking. Its investing approach includes merger arbitrage, convertible and derivative arbitrage, equity restructuring, credit and distressed investments, private investments and real estate. Unlike many other hedge funds, Och-Ziff uses very little leverage and focuses on keeping volatility low, according to The Wall Street Journal.
O-Z was founded in 1994 by ex-Goldman Sachs Daniel Ochs and the Ziff family, founder of magazine publisher Ziff-Davis (PC Magazine), and it went public in 2007. It's based in New York and has offices in London, Hong Kong, Bangalore, Tokyo, and Beijing.
