Overview
Chicago-based Republic International Corp., a holding company, is one of the biggest publicly-owned insurance companies in the U.S. Old Republic has more than 125 corporate entities, including 23 insurance subsidiaries. These market, underwrite, and provide risk-management services for property and liability, mortgage guaranty, and title insurance. It also has a small life and health-insurance business.
Like its competitors, Republic has felt the pain of the housing collapse and the resulting turmoil has led to downgrades from credit-rating agencies.
