Philadelphia-based Radian Group Inc., a credit-risk management provider, is the largest mortgage-insurance firm in the U.S. In addition to mortgage insurance, its businesses include financial guaranty insurance for public finance, asset-backed and structured finance transactions, and reinsurance and other financial services. It owns a minority stake in Sherman Financial Group LLC, a consumer asset and servicing firm specializing in credit card and bankruptcy-plan consumer assets.
The financial crisis hit Radian hard as claims soared and ratings agencies downgraded the company's credit.
