Scottrade Inc. is a discount brokerage headquartered in St. Louis. While the company has made its name through its online brokerage services, Scottrade operates over 350 local offices with at least one in every state. Its clients can trade via the Web, phone, mobile device or through a broker.
The company was founded by Roger O. Riney in 1980 as Scottsdale Securities in Scottsdale, Ariz. Riney and his family own 80% of the company. Family ownership has allowed Scottrade to focus on long-term growth and taking care of employees. The company has opened up nearly 200 branch offices since 2005 and paid its employees quarterly bonuses every quarter for 20 years -- through Q4 2008.
