Paulson Capital Corp. is a holding company for Paulson Investment Co. Inc., a independent brokerage firm and boutique investment bank. Services include securities brokerage and corporate finance, including underwriting discounts and warrants, securities trading and investment income. Based in Portland, Ore., it has 41 branch offices in the U.S.
The company specializes in public offerings of small and emerging growth companies. It hosts the Annual Westergaard Conference to showcase emerging small and microcap companies. The event is named for longtime securities analyst and vocal U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission opponent, the late John Westergaard.
Paulson Capital is a family-run company. Chester "Chet" Paulson, who founded the company in 1970, is chairman, chief executive officer and president. His wife Jacqueline Paulson, who founded Paulson with her husband, serves as corporate secretary, treasurer and director. Their son-in-law, Trent Davis, is president and chief executive of its subsidiary Paulson Investment Co. Inc. Their eldest son Charlie Paulson, who has been a head trader and senior vice president of proprietary trading, is a director of Paulson Capital.
