Overview
Reinsurance Group of America Inc. is one of the largest reinsurance holding companies in the world, with offices in 21 countries and over $2 trillion of life reinsurance in-force posted in 2007. In the U.S., RGA sells reinsurance through its subsidiary, RGA Reinsurance.
A leader in the life reinsurance market, RGA is also a top player in the facultative underwriting space, writing more than 100,000 policies in the U.S and over 250,000 worldwide in 2007. RGA was also named "Best Overall Life Reinsurer" by North American life insurers for the second consecutive time in the biennial Flaspöhler Cendant Survey. In 2008, MetLife Inc. divested itself of its 52% stake in RGA.
RGA partnered with the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis to start the Longer Life Foundation, an organization, which studies factors in predicting mortality and extending human longevity.
