Capstead Mortgage Corp., based in Dallas, is a real estate investment trust investing in real estate-related assets on a leveraged basis. Its investments include residential adjustable-rate mortgage securities issued and guaranteed by Federal National Mortgage Association, Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp., and Government National Mortgage Association.
A fund from Fortress Investment Group LLC bought into the company in 2000 and continues to manage it. President and chief executive Andrew F. Jacobs had been its chief financial officer. The company has fared better than many other REITs amid the upheaval in the credit markets because of its focus on agency securities.
