The Internal Revenue Service, a bureau of the Department of the Treasury, is the tax-collection agency of the U.S. and administers the Internal Revenue Code enacted by Congress.
The IRS is hiring hundreds of new employees into its corporate division for stepped-up efforts to track down wealthy tax evaders, as well as in new offices looking into a range of industries including:
-- financial services
-- retail, food, pharmaceuticals and health care
-- natural resources and construction
-- communications, technology and media
The IRS hires a slew of temporary workers each year for income-tax filing season -- January through May. Positions typically include data transcribers, clerks, tax examiners and contact representatives.
