Calamos Asset Management Inc. offers open-end and closed-end mutual funds, offshore funds, and partnerships. While the firm’s roots are in convertible bonds, it has diversified over the years to include equity, fixed-income and alternative investment strategies. Its clients are institutional and individual investors and high-net-worth clients.
Calamos is a family-run business. John Calamos, Sr., and his nephew, Nick Calamos, preside at the top and are co-chief investment officers. Chairman and chief executive John Calamos is a retired U.S. Air Force major, raised by Greek parents who owned a grocery store on Chicago's west side. Nick Calamos is senior executive vice president and head of investments. Both execs have written books about investing in convertible bonds.
Located in Naperville, Ill., the firm is setting up shop in the U.K. It plans to tap U.S.-based institutions and advisers serving nonresident aliens in the U.K. and Continental Europe.
