Global financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. Inc. is one of the few remaining private partnerships on Wall Street. It specializes in bond and equity sales and trading, investment banking, real-estate private equity and is among the primary dealers authorized to trade with the U.S. Federal Reserve. It is also a securities-clearing intermediary of fixed-income, equities and futures transactions. Cantor owns a stake in BGC Partners, a global inter-dealer broker specializing in over-the-counter financial instruments and related derivative products, which spun off from the firm in 2004. It launched an investment bank operation in 2009. Headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, the firm has 27 offices in North America and locations in London, Milan, Paris, Zurich, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai and Tel Aviv.
Cantor is awaiting regulatory approval to launch an exchange for trading futures contracts pegged to the success of movies' box-office receipts. The original plan for the Cantor Movie Exchange was put on hold earlier this decade following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in which 658 Cantor Fitzgerald employees lost their lives at its World Trade Center headquarters. Its comeback is perhaps one of the most dramatic in Street history.
Cantor is in expansion mode. It is scooping up disenchanted and downsized refugees from bulge-bracket competitors. The firm has recently hired traders, analysts and bankers from rivals including UBS Financial Services Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. In its debt-capital markets group, it has signed on almost 100 sales and trading pros this year. Cantor has been hiring in its debt capital markets group, after hiring 200 staffers in 2009.

Cantor is reportedly in the market for about 100 traders in its derivatives and bond-trading divisions in Europe and Asia.
