GFI Group Inc. is an inter-dealer brokerage that acts as an intermediary for banks, large corporations, insurance companies, and hedge funds. The New York-based company provides brokerage services in cash and derivatives markets, including credit derivatives and fixed income, financial derivatives, cash equities and equity derivatives, energy and commodities. GFI also offers market data and analysis on credit, equity, commodity and currency derivatives, and other financial instruments. Other products include foreign-exchange options, freight, and energy derivatives including electric power, coal, and carbon emissions options. GFI has offices in New York, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, Cape Town, Dubai, Tel Aviv, Dublin, Calgary, Englewood, N.J., and Sugar Land, Texas.
In 2008, GFI acquired Trayport Ltd., a provider of trading software in the European energy markets for brokers, exchanges and trading counterparties, to enhance its technology offerings in commodity and financial products. Its GlobalVision electronic platform can accommodate electronic trading and information sharing. Also in 2008, GFI Group received Energy Business Awards for renewable energy and energy marketing and communications from London-based Commodities Now Magazine.
