Overview
Huntington Bancshares Inc., a holding company for regional bank Huntington National Bank. It provides banking services, investment management, trust services, brokerage services, and customized insurance service programs. The Columbus, Ohio-based company operates more than 600 offices, in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. It also finances auto sales and leases, provides brokerage services to wealthy customers and offers trust and insurance services.
In 2008, Huntington Bancshares was named one of the 101 Best and Brightest Companies by the Michigan Business and Professional Association and one of the Best Companies to Work For by the Grand Rapids Business Journal.
Like other U.S. regional banks, Huntington Bancshares has taken a hit in the credit crisis. It recently cut 500 positions, 4% of the work force. The company also cut bonuses and other incentive programs for all employees including the company match for its 401(k) plan. Additionally, its chairman, president and CEO, Thomas Hoaglin, retired and was replaced by Stephen Steinou.
