CVC Capital Partners Ltd. is a European private equity and investment advisory firm. It's reported to be one of the world's best-performing large buyout funds. Based in London and Luxembourg, it has 19 offices in Europe, Asia and the U.S.
CVC opened its New York office in 2007 and has been building its U.S deal flow. Like other U.K. PE shops entering the American market, it has Wall Street ties but must still court U.S. corporate boards and chief executives. In 2008, it formed a global financial institutions sector team to invest in distressed opportunities in the U.S., Asia and Europe. It also raised $4.1 billion for its third Asian-Pacific fund, which it claims is the largest in Asia. Its CVC Asia Pacific shop is a joint venture with Citigroup Inc. The company was founded as part of Citigroup's European private-equity arm in 1981 and became independent in 1993.
CVC has a star culture that rewards landing deals and securing profitable deal exits. Its staff includes 17 different nationalities, a range of specialties and an average employee tenure of eight years, according to its Web site.
CVC isn't actively recruiting but will hire selectively when it meets the right candidates. It recently has done so particularly in the U.S. for its financial services efforts.
The firm is among the many in PE that have been hiring from investment banks.
