Arlington Asset Investment Corp. Company Profile

Overview

Arlington Asset Investment Corp. is a real estate investment trust investing in mortgage-related assets. Like other mortgage-related investors, the company got slammed in the subprime crisis. Formerly known as Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group Inc., the company changed its name in 2009 to distinguish its business from its former brokerage unit FBR Capital Markets Corp.. It still owns a stake in the storied boutique investment bank, which began spinning off a few years ago.

In 2008, the firm benefited from a move by the New York Stock Exchange to temporarily lower its market capitalization requirement for listed companies; its stock had fallen below the $1 per share for a consecutive 30-day trading period, out of compliance with listing standards. Its mortgage origination subsidiary filed for bankruptcy protection.
