Overview
FMR LLC known as Fidelity Investments, is the largest mutual fund company in the U.S. and one of the world's largest providers of financial services. It's privately held, controlled by the family of founder C. Edward Johnson II. Fidelity Investments manages a large family of mutual funds, provides fund distribution and investment advice services, discount brokerage services, retirement services, wealth management, securities execution and clearance, life insurance and a number of other services.
Despite its size, Fidelity is a family-run business. While Abigail P. Johnson, daughter of Fidelity Chairman Edward C. Johnson III, is reportedly no longer in the running for the top job, she might end up chairman. The family's unassuming style and New England discretion infuses company culture. The sign on the fund titan's Boston headquarters is just a small placard. Kaizen, the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement and incremental development, is big at Fidelity, so bone up on your lean manufacturing if you're interested in a career at the company.
Recruiting
Fidelity recently developed an analyst career path in which analysts can choose to stay in that role instead of moving into fund management.
The fund titan is so large that it even has its own staffing agency, Veritude, which specializes in -- no surprise -- the financial services industry, among others, and places a wide range of professionals.
