Panelists at the Deutsche Bank Women on Wall Street Conference underscored the need for women to self-promote and utilize sponsors.

As the ax falls on Wall Street, financial services employees are rightly concerned whether their positions will exist by the end of the year. Situations can change, but certain job areas still seem immune to the threat of layoffs.

The Robert Half 2012 Salary Guide says companies are in need of qualified finance and accountants and are willing to pay higher starter salaries than in 2011.

Like to push your point of view and challenge conventional thinking? If so, consider a career in high-end business sales in the near future. Or are you more the type to look for solutions to problems before and after a sale has been made? In that case, you might want to consider a job at a luxury car dealership.

Would you forgo a steady paycheck for a job you really loved? If you're working on commission, that might not be far from reality.
