Job Description

CalPERS seeks an Investment Officer I to work under the general direction of the Portfolio Manager of the Investment Servicing Division, Portfolio Analytics. The Investment Officer I assigned to the position identified above demonstrates the CalPERS Core Values (Quality, Respect, Integrity, Openness, Accountability, and Balance), works well as a member of a team, and takes initiative in effectively performing the following functions:

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Perform less-complex reporting and analysis of the performance return or inputs into performance return of CalPERS portfolios.

• Assist in analysis of general partner balance sheets, income statements and other financial reports provided to CalPERS, independently resolving any issues.

• Validate the accuracy of valuation of investments held within portfolios and explain impact to performance.

• Analyze portfolio and benchmark performance, including security level returns, utilizing industry standard methodologies such as performance attribution.

• Assist in the creation of reports and tools to support the monitoring and understanding of performance returns.

• Calculate performance for less complex investments.

• Create and analyze control and validation reports to support the accuracy of performance calculations and valuation including data provided by partners.

• Investigate and resolve issues related to performance reporting, valuation and calculations.

• Prepare performance return, valuation, or validation reports for INVO management, CalPERS Investment Committee and Board.

Minimum Requirements and Experience:

• Equivalent to graduation from college preferably with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field

OR

• Six months of professional experience performing investment analysis

OR

• Possession of a master's degree with major work in business administration, economics, finance, mathematics, or a closely related field

Desirable Qualifications:

• MBA or possession of an advanced degree in finance or another applicable technical field

• Professional certification such as a CPA, CFA, MFE, ASA/FSA

• Strong analytical skills with keen attention to details

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Ability to work independently and under short time constraints

• Microsoft Office experience; Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
