Job Description

The responsibilities of the Financial Manager include: (1) conducting deep financial analysis for a large portfolio related to intellectual property, extramural funding, research and scientific developments, and industry trends; (2) working with Office of the President on complex royalty and patent distribution and planning and initiating an extensive program of revenue allocations to campus units; (3) generating financial statements from a raw set of complex data with accuracy; and (4) creating a budget and managing the financial components of OIP-ISR (operating budget of ~ $5 million and 38 full time staff). In addition to the above, the Financial Manager is expected to write reports, draft policies and memoranda on complex issues, coordinate policy matters and financial activity with the UCLA Office of Academic Planning and Budget; and establish and sustain appropriate accounting and financial reporting policies and procedures.

In addition to the 5 years of experience in financial services, corporate finance, or accounting, the successful candidate will be a self-starter with sufficient focus and drive to execute projects with minimal supervision, have a commitment to customer service in balance with financial accountability and meet the other required criteria listed in the skills, knowledge, abilities, and competencies section of the job description.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in management, finance, accounting, or quantitative discipline.
Five years work experience in financial services, corporate finance, or accounting.
Experience with GAAP, FASB/GASB and external audits.
Sophisticated financial planning, modeling and reporting skills using database and other sources of information.
Strong writing and verbal presentation skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities with competing timelines.
Ability to draw data from disparate sources and provide quantitative analysis and recommendations.
Experience and success with working in a team environment.
Self-starter with sufficient focus and drive to execute projects with minimal supervision.
Ability to deliver and experience with delivering concise updates to supervisor to keep him/her apprised of various activities and potential issues of concern.

Preferred:

MBA, CPA, or CFA designation.
Strong knowledge of issues in University administration related to research, intellectual property, faculty affairs and private/public sector partnerships.
Experience with managing transactions within a financial environment based on fund accounting principles.
Working knowledge of UC financial policies and procedures.
