The Assistant Vice President, Business Development will be responsible for strengthening Moody's Investors Service's integral role in the U.S. Public Finance marketplace. The AVP will develop strong business relationships with municipal financial advisors, municipal investment bankers, and senior financial leadership of large municipal entities - including state and local governments, not-for-profit healthcare organizations, universities, and housing development authorities. The AVP's success will ultimately be measured by the increased revenue generated from their business development activity.

The position will be based in Moody's Dallas office and will require extensive travel throughout the southern and western U.S.

Responsible for growing Moody's Public Finance ratings business in the southern and western U.S. and establishing and managing business relationships with key municipal financial intermediaries as well as with major municipal debt issuers.

* Develop and implement a comprehensive outreach program to key public finance intermediary institutions and major municipal issuers within the AVP's assigned business territory.

* Compile and analyze relevant market information and trends to determine most prominent areas of opportunity.

* Engender strong working relationships with key municipal finance industry organizations, including attending relevant conferences. Assure Moody's Investors Service is actively involved in all relevant aspects of these conferences.

* Provide Moody's management with relevant marketplace feedback.

* Utilize Salesforce.com to track business relationships.

* Produce and account for significant and measurable business development results.

* 8 - 12 years of sales or business development success at an investment bank, bank, municipal finance advisory firm, international rating organization, or other institutional financial services provider.

* Strong understanding of credit risk issues within the capital markets, particularly within the U.S. public finance marketplace.

* Exposure to and extensive knowledge of the role and functions of Rating Organizations.

* Ability to understand and communicate the fundamentals of Moody's analytical approach, methodologies and methodology changes.

* Superior written and verbal communication skills.

* Superior consultative selling skills.

* Extensive experience with customer relationship management software, ideally Saleforce.com.

* Well developed IT skills, including strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.

* Highest ethical standards and superior business judgment.

* Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and business environment.

* Ability to work independently and to meet ambitious business development goals.

* Ability to travel extensively throughout the southern and western U.S.

* Strong academic background. Bachelors Degree required. Masters degree preferred, particularly MBA or MPA.

Moody's Commercial Group establishes, maintains and manages the business and pricing relationships with Moody's rated entities and issuers of debt securities and intermediaries in the capital markets. The department interfaces with issuers of fixed income securities and other capital markets participants such as corporations, mutual funds, municipal governments, public institutions, originators and managers of structured finance products, and intermediaries in the capital markets. The group articulates the value of Moody's ratings in the execution of transactions, is responsible for the development and launch of innovative ratings based products, communicates pricing strategy, and negotiates all commercial contractual terms with issuers.
