Responsibilities
Manage organization wide, large, complex efforts that combine the delivery of software elements, new and changed business models, and overall changes to organizational structure and capabilities. Typically these efforts involve several parallel projects, subject matter experts, managers and key stakeholders. Establishes and reviews objectives, coordinates all activities across projects, and oversees the integration and reuse of interim work products and results.
This person spends more time and effort on integration activities, negotiating changes in plans, and communicating than on the other project management activities. Accountable to executive sponsors for schedule, budget, and quality of all program elements. Leads high-level sessions for program plan and schedule development. Reviews/approves project plans for conformance to program strategy and program plan and schedule.
Acts as the communications conduit to executive sponsors and program steering committee and conducts periodic briefings/status updates. Escalates decisions to executive sponsors as necessary. Provides and interprets policies, creating an environment that fosters sustainable momentum for the program (i.e. removing barriers both inside and outside the enterprise), and periodically reviewing program progress and interim results to ensure alignment with the overall strategic vision.
Leadership Accountabilities: Business Management & Planning: Create and implement operational or functional business plans aligned with the overall business strategy and organizational policy to ensure the business unit within the span of control has the capacity and capability to meet the agreed objectives. To work with the Leadership Team to set the future direction of the business and make a full contribution to longer term plans. Contribute ideas, innovations and insights based on operational and customer needs to the overall business plan, to ensure the right objectives and focus is set in that plan.
Process/Continuous Improvement: To identify and initiate improvement projects within the operational area that will enable improvement of overall business unit performance. Responsible for change readiness, implementation and delivery of change benefits.
Customer Service: To champion strong customer service attitudes and values. Responsible for assessing customer needs and inputting into the business strategy to help shape future product and service design. Utilize performance metrics to drive quality output.
Risk Management: Be accountable for the identification (self-identification) and minimizing risk across areas of responsibility. Ensuring the reputation and financial robustness of the business unit is protected appropriately. Requiring maintenance of an appropriate control environment and self certification level.
Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders across the business so that these contribute both to the effective operation of the business unit as well as the development of the unit business plan.
Managing Change: Proactively identify opportunities for change which will add value to the achievement of business objectives and enhance the customer experience. Ensure robust structures are in place to deliver, monitor and review change initiatives.
Leadership: Set clear vision of business success. Translate overall strategy into meaningful direction for the unit. Seize opportunities that enhance performance and the customer experience. Focus others on key business deliverables. Create, plan and implement activities that will enable a highly motivated and highly performing workforce. Champion of Customer Service, change, culture, values and attitude across the business function.
Recruitment & Induction: Oversee the hiring process and ensure that resource plans meet business need.
Team Development: Create, plan and implement activities that will support the development of team members. Create a culture of development across the business unit.
Performance Management: Prepare, analyze and act upon relevant management information to ensure that each team meets agreed service levels and objectives. Coach and develop staff, Review and follow-up with each individual's performance to ensure they meet their specific objectives and that they have the right knowledge, skills and behaviors. Ensures that direct reports have clear objectives and targets linked to business objectives and appropriate behavior ("what" is expected and "how" they are expected to achieve objectives). Ensure policies for the performance management of individuals are implemented across all teams.
Qualifications
Ability to assume Program Director role as necessary There may be a requirement for travel Proven track record of large programs end-to-end delivery to time, cost and quality Flexibility to work on technology, change and business process programs Regarded internally as a program management expert, providing specialist knowledge and support to project teams to shape business development and resolve business issues. Will ensure that own knowledge is up to date and is reflective of best practice (particularly Business Change Framework) In-depth knowledge and proven application of Program and Project Management methodologies and full project lifecycle including documentation standards, risk, issue, assumption and dependency management and change controls process Familiarity with process modeling, workshop facilitation and business analysis Strong knowledge of the current business operating model and supporting systems / applications including structures and key RBS Citizens processes and procedures Well rounded knowledge of banking products and terminology Competent use of Microsoft Office applications to include Microsoft Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word PMI certifications are highly desirable Organizational awareness required High School or Equivalent required, Bachelor Degree or Master's Degree preferred, PMI certification preferred 7 - 10 years Program Manager, Previous Experience as a Program Manager an advantage 4 - 6 years Sr. Project Management, Previous Experience as a Sr. Project Manager advantage 8 + years Project Management, Previous Experience as Project Manager experience advantage 10 + years Project Environment, Previous Project Environment experience advantage 5 - 7 years Citizens Business Services, Previous Citizens Business Services experience advantage
