Job Description

This position will be responsible for leading the development of manufacturing processing standards and engineering APQP disciplines across CLIENT. Providing the training, implementation and adherence to develop process capabilities and advanced quality planning deliverables including the all systems, processes, and procedures. The result will be demonstrated design, supplier, and process capability for all new products. This position requires leadership and mentoring without many direct reports – across Business Units, Plants, and functions and requires the capability to work under minimal supervision. Essential Functions: People Lead CLIENT Business Unit quality managers, salaried design, manufacturing, and supplier quality engineers to standardize, train and implement the APQP process in forward model design, supplier development, and CLIENT manufacturing sites. Develop and grow the capability of CLIENT by forming teams to extract current best practices and standards – and building a repository for manufacturing and engineering to incorporate these in new product development. Serve as a change agent for the APQP methodology. Motivate all employees through encouragement, development, training, and open communications Open and approachable Processes Develop an integrated PAC process with APQP deliverables – ensure quality of event for each phased gate, Lead design/process reviews - identifies where current design or process limitations exist and where new effort is required. Ensures new designs have proven design margins through simulation tools, testing extremes, appropriate Six Sigma tools and statistical methodologies. Ensures new process development uses appropriate Six Sigma tools, Lean Manufacturing concepts, and statistical methodologies. Assist in the development of process capability windows for new production facilities and tools. Develop boiler plate design validation tests – with statistically significant sample sizes Develop design review process to focus on quality of event for APQP deliverables Systems Lead the development and implementation of APQP deliverables from the automotive SAE standards adapted to the CLIENT phased gate reviews. For new Product designs ensure APQP deliverables linked to address process capabilities and DFMEA’s are linked to PFMEAs, Significant and Critical characteristics are cascaded and appropriately controlled. Create Process capability development metrics and metrics to drive DFM on NPI. Develop Quality metrics for each BU to review on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis supporting annual objective setting, planning, and the visibility to the results throughout the year Establish a metric for major new program safe launch status for review monthly Read across best practices to each Business Unit. Benchmark competition and industry for BIC design and processes – read across to each Business Unit Design and lead quality training efforts to support this effort. Additional Responsibilities: Provide CLIENT KPI Reports and progress monthly from each BU as a summary for CLIENT. Maintain a close relationship to the BU’s and Plants including people, supplier and processing issues Senior Manager (Skills & Abilities) Must have a working understanding of the APQP process and its deliverables Must have excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to work cross functionally Must have the ability to reduce complex concepts into simplified forms and educate others on those concepts Must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft office and Statistical software tools Senior Manager (Education & Experience) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Degree in engineering or other technical field strongly preferred. MBA a plus Minimum of 15 years quality management or related experience required. This experience should include proven strong interpersonal and talent management skills Strong background in statistical techniques and application is required Experience with Lean Manufacturing and its implementation preferred ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence preferred Six Sigma experience - Black Belt strongly preferred Prior Experience in Design and/or Process/Manufacturing engineering in Stamping, Injection Molding, SMT, PCBA, and Test is strongly preferred Director (Skills & Abilities) Must have a working understanding of the APQP process and its deliverables Must have the ability to lead across Business Units and Functions to accomplish common objectives and implement standards Must be able to operate with a high degree of autonomy Must be able to assist in determining the strategic direction of the Company Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft office and Statistical software tools Must have strong computer skills including quality control applications, word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to work cross functionally. Must have the ability to reduce complex concepts into simplified forms and educate others on those concepts Director (Education & Experience) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Degree in engineering or other technical field strongly preferred. MBA a plus Minimum of 20 years quality management or related experience required.
