Job Description

Position Summary: ITS at New York University is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to assist with the design, implementation and maintenance of NYU's campus-wide network infrastructure (NYU-NET) and network servers. This position will configure and maintain existing network components, implement network upgrades, develop network management tools to perform capacity planning and to monitor & report on the reliability of the network, and provide problem resolution for network hardware and services to University academic and administrative units. Qualifications/Required Education: Bachelor's degree Preferred Education: Master's degree in Computer Science Required Experience: 5 or more years of relevant professional level experience or an equivalent combination. Must include project management experience and intermediate to advanced knowledge of designing, configuring, and operating enterprise-level TCP/IP networks, management of switches and routers, network security appliances, load-balancers, developing complex Cisco IOS configurations, and/or experience designing, managing, and troubleshooting network services such as DNS, DHCP, NTP, etc. Preferred Experience: Intensive network configuration and troubleshooting experience with MS Windows, Apple Macintosh and Unix/Linux Operating Systems in a large (>10,000 nodes) campus environment. Experience in supporting a multi-site Global WAN using both public and private connectivity. Experience with network management systems such as HP Openview. Previous experience and basic understanding of administering Unix-based systems. Experience participating in projects involving the design and build out of cabling plants for new building or data center facilities. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent verbal, analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience. Proficiency with PC/Windows, Macintosh, and Unix/Linux operating systems. Advanced understanding of Cisco products and configurations. Proficiency in performing network analysis and troubleshooting, using CLI and other tools such as tcdump, iperf, wireshark, etc. Experience automating tasks and performing data and log analysis using basic shell scripting, the Bourne shell, sed, awk & Perl Knowledge of a variety of current and emerging technologies. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of CiscoWorks, NCS, NAMs, AccessRegistrar, ACS, ISE, NAC, WAAS, ONS MSTP 15454; Knowledge of Cisco Unified Communications Manager a plus; Familiarity with Intermapper, Torrus, RT, Fluke Netflow Tracker, NfSen/NfDump, RCS, Twiki, Jira Confluence or equivalent a plus; MS Active Directory, LDAP, Oracle, Apache Global Server Load-Balancing, MPLS.
