Further information about "working at Moody's" is available at our Careers Page at www.moodys.com Objective: Responsible for overall performance and availability management of MIT applications and databases, including defining, collecting and reporting on key performance metrics across the enterprise. Manages a cross-functional team in a matrixed organizational model. Focuses on working with the Development organization to improve quality, availability and performance of applications at the middleware and data layers. Supports production Issues and outages as the applications middleware and data layer SME. Functional Responsibilities: * Sr. Database Performance Manager spanning product sets and applications * Define standardized key performance metrics across databases (Sybase, Oracle, DB2 and SQLServer) and in house applications * Mentor key developers to improve application availability, resiliency and performance designs within PDLC framework * Continuous proactive performance tuning of MIT applications and systems in conjunction with other groups * Level 3 support liason for performance/availability related issues, as necessary * Create and refine development standards to: o drive a 'stored procedure'-less model o define performance "ownership" for developers o ensure software design includes performance impact analysis, testing and tools o ensure software is highly available and reliable * Harden the DBA/application monitoring tasks and tools at Moody's and integrate with other monitoring tools and teams. Ensure tools provide sufficient data to quickly resolve problems. Participate in selection and implementation of monitoring tools. * Provide training and mentoring to staff to develop proficiency identifying and resolving performance and availability issues * Provide SME support to middleware team, as necessary Participate in capacity planning; provide applicable trending data to facilitate decision making * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required * Minimum of 10 years experience in data-intensive organizations with experience in enterprise or data architecture, database administration and management, and custom and package implementations * Proven thought leadership and managerial skills to independently manage matrixed teams * Well-developed organizational and interpersonal communications skills * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, such as meeting facilitation, presentation and documentation * Good business analysis/redesign skills with architecture and implementation experience * Requirements analysis, conceptual, logical and detailed design skills * Configuration planning, testing, change management and support experience * Project management with complex projects and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously * Experience working with various data solutions / products * Experience designing, implementing and supporting data requirements of enterprise level applications * Expertise in multiple technology platforms and languages such as Java, J2EE, C#, .NET, LAMP, etc. * Expertise in multiple relational database technologies such as Oracle, DB2, Sybase, SQL, MySQL, etc. * Expertise in non-relational database technologies such as Hadoop, Mongo, NoSQL, etc, a plus With 400 employees and 800 contractors worldwide, Moody's Information Technology ("MIT") is the largest department of Moody's Shared Services and provides end-to-end technology solutions for Moody's Investors Service and Moody's Shared Services, as well as infrastructure for Moody's Analytics.
